FOOTNOTE

I know it has a serious purpose in the real world, but the Defcon sequence is a great and simple way of ratcheting up the tension, being used in numerous movies as a indication that the manure is about to impact with the fan. For some reason, it always reminds me of Wargames (and I’m not even sure it was used in that film). Oh, and Pop Will Eat Itself recorded a song called ‘DefCon One’, where they informed us that Alan Moore did indeed know the score.

One purely personal note (and if you didn’t know I was English before, this will give it away):
The football (or soccer) team that I support (Nottingham Forest) has for the best part of a decade oscillated between mediocrity and tragic farce, having perfected the art of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. So I couldn’t let is pass that they have finally given me something to smile about and grabbed a glorious (and unexpected) promotion to a higher division on the last day of the season. Almost made the years of disappointment worthwhile…
And now there will be no more mention of sport. Ever. Promise.
